Project EAT: Educate/Empower an Almajiri Today

In many parts of Northern Nigeria, the Almajiri system has long been a traditional method of Islamic education. However, over the years, a significant number of Almajiri children have been left vulnerable, with little to no access to formal education, healthcare, or basic welfare. This has resulted in cycles of poverty, illiteracy, and limited opportunities for growth. Project EAT (Educate/Empower an Almajiri Today) aims to change this narrative by providing educational resources, skills training, and empowerment programs to uplift these children and integrate them into society.

Why Project EAT?

Our Approach

Education is a fundamental right, yet millions of Almajiri children are deprived of structured learning. Many roam the streets begging for alms, with no pathway to a brighter future. Project EAT seeks to:

  • Bridge the gap between traditional and formal education.
  • Provide literacy and numeracy training.
  • Equip children with vocational skills for self-sustainability.
  • Foster community involvement in ensuring the well-being of Almajiri children.

1. Education Integration: We introduce structured learning programs that incorporate both Islamic and formal education, ensuring that children can read, write, and develop essential skills.

2. Skill Development: Beyond literacy, vocational training is key. From tailoring to farming and digital skills, we empower Almajiri children with practical knowledge to help them earn a livelihood.

3. Community Involvement: Change begins with collective effort. We collaborate with local leaders, educators, and policymakers to create an inclusive environment where Almajiri children can thrive.

4. Welfare and Support: Proper nutrition, healthcare, and shelter are critical. Through partnerships, we work towards improving the living conditions of Almajiri children, ensuring their basic needs are met.
